My New Ideas Brainstorm

I did not like how my first opening sequence worked out. This was due to many problems along the way when i was filming and afterwards when i was editing.

This is why i have decided to do a new opening sequence, the brainstorm underneath is some new ideas that i have come up with for my new opening sequence.

My New Opening Sequence

I have decided to re-do my opening sequence with a different story. This is my new presentation for my idea:

My First Opening Sequence Anylsis

I created my first opening sequence in Kalkun, Turkey. I have decided not to use this opening sequence, as I don’t think it really worked and I have decided to refilm it and change my idea. I really liked the beginning of my opening sequence as I think it was effective at setting the scene, I thought the music went really well with the start of it, but I don’t think the music went with the end of the opening sequence because it was to happy but the actions in the movie was meant to leave suspense and creepy for the audience to watch, but with the music you where not able to get this effect.

I also think that lots of my scenes did not relate with each other and it seemed disoriented when it wasn’t meant to be. Lots of the scenes from my opening sequence would of worked if I had filmed around the same subject and not different aspects of the holiday. I think by first sequence did not really work because I did not have a very good idea about what I wanted in my head and therefore it was extremely difficult to film.

I really liked the underwater scenes that I filmed on the go-pro but I think I included to much underwater in the opening sequence and should of focused on filming with my Nikon 3100 because it has a better quality of filming and looks more realistic than the go-pro. Next

I do like the beginning and the end of my sequence but I think they do not work together, if I would re-film the sequence I would choose one idea or the other and not try and calibrate a drama with an upbeat opening sequence as I think it is hard to get the idea across in such a short period of time which my opening sequence is meant to be.

I think when I am filming my new opening sequence I want to develop my story more before I film. I think this is extremely important so that I have more idea about what I am filming on the day.  I also want to use a tri-pod so my filming is sturdier and therefore the opening sequence should look better. I think it also important to use as many different shots as possible.

Ideas for my Opening Sequence

I had the idea of starting my opening sequence with a voice over.

This is because I think it would be effective and work well with my opening sequence.

An opening sequence that did a voice over was "Easy A"

Easy A about a High school student Olive Penderghast finds herself the victim of her school's "rumor mill" when she lies to her best friend Rhiannon  about a weekend tryst with a fictional college freshman. Word quickly spreads of Olive's promiscuity and, much to her surprise, she welcomes the attention.

This summary is described in the start of the film to make the audience aware of future events. Before the film has even started we have a small insight into the life of Olive.

This captures the audience's attention and makes them want to carry on watching which is the exact effect that I want for my opening sequence.

The history of opening sequences

THE HISTORY OF MOVIE OPENING SEQUENCES

A title sequence is used to present the film’s or television programs title, the producers and introduce cast members through visuals and sound

Opening sequences where extremely important in the silent film era this was because they where used to end and finish silent films so that it could inform the audience when the film was about start and when it was going to finish. It also able to identify both the name of the film and the film company involved, and introduce the characters.

The first examples of title sequences themselves consisted of a series of title cards shown at the beginning of the film. For many years the title sequences where made like this until advent television forced the major film studios to invest in developing cinema in order to win back their audience.

Their new idea consisted of orchestral music before the curtains opened but their main new idea was long opening sequences before the movie started. As cinema's title sequences grew longer we begin to see the involvement of graphic design luminaries such as Saul Bass, which directly influenced the 1960s.

Up until the 1970s, closing credits for films usually listed only a reprise of the cast members with their roles identified, or even simply just said "The End", requiring opening credits to normally contain the details.

For instance, the title sequence of the 1968 film Oliver! runs for about three-and-a-half minutes, and while not listing the complete cast, does list nearly all of its technical credits at the beginning of the film.

With modern technology effecting contemporary life, there has been a higher expectation of title sequences within the film business. Most significantly, we now see designers working like filmmakers and filmmakers working like designers.

An example of a new contempary opening sequence that is able to capture the audience's attention and worked on by an incredible designer is the girl with the dragon tattoo:
